With just under six weeks to go until the 2013 Harbour Carnival, Islanders are invited to take part in the first ‘Guernsey Duck Hunt’ around the Island for the chance to win a prize from Condor Ferries.
Multi-coloured rubber ducks will be placed in the window of 25 retailers around the Island from 19 – 28 July, and the challenge is to find them. Each retailer has very generously purchased their duck for £200, contributing £5,000 to the Harbour Carnival fundraising total.
Clues on where to find each of the ducks will be available from 15 July on the Harbour Carnival website – www.harbourcarnival.gg – and in the participating stores. Entry forms can also be downloaded and printed off from both sites, and the winner will be selected at random once all the correct entries are compiled.
Shaun Gourley, of the Guernsey Round Table said: ‘As organisers of Harbour Carnival, we’re a competitive bunch and are always looking for new ideas to raise even more money for worthy causes that benefit the local community. The hunt is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to go super-sleuthing around the Island and solve the clues to find the ducks. We’d like to thank Condor Ferries for donating such a great prize for the lucky winner: a return crossing with car and four people to the UK.’
Alan Pearce from RBC Wealth Management’s Guernsey Leadership Team, the long-term sponsors of Harbour Carnival said: ‘This is a wonderful addition to an already popular event, which we hope will provide much-needed funds for local charities, especially the Guernsey Sea Cadets who are this year’s main beneficiary. The winner will be announced on the evening of the event on 9 August, and all 25 ducks will also take part in the Corporate Duck Race.’
